Also known as telephoto compression, flattened perspective, stacked depth, long lens effect, foreshortening, compressed space
An optical effect of extreme telephoto lenses that visually collapses the distance between foreground and background elements, stacking them.
Lens compression occurs when a subject is photographed from a great distance using an extreme telephoto lens. This flattens the perceived physical space, making distant background elements appear much larger and physically closer to the foreground subject than they actually are.
Where to apply: Ideal for creating dramatic, graphic compositions in landscapes, urban streetscapes, and transport shots where mountains, buildings, or crowds stack up into dense layers.
