When to use it: This angle works best with clear, shallow water and a distinct subject—a swimmer, coral, or a boat's shadow. The distortion becomes the story.
The light trick: Shoot when the sun is high for strong caustics (the shifting light patterns on the water surface). Overcast skies flatten the effect.
Watch out: Murky or choppy water kills clarity. You need a calm surface to read the ripples.
