Waist shot — a framing that usually captures a person from the waist up, so the pose and hands read clearly while the legs stay out of frame.
Reach for it when hands and pose matter. A waist shot keeps gestures, tools, and torso language in frame, so it suits portraiture, interviews, and demos better than a head-and-shoulders close-up.
Watch the crop. If the frame cuts at the knees or mid-thigh, you drift into a cowboy shot (mid-thigh up). For full-body action, step back to a full shot — a waist shot crops out the legs on purpose.
