Head shot — a tight portrait that frames a person from the shoulders up, so the face fills the frame and nothing else competes for attention.
Head shot vs. close-up: a close-up can isolate any detail — an eye, a hand — while a head shot is defined by the shoulders-up crop on a person. Crop off the chin or the top of the head and it reads as a tighter crop, not a standard head shot.
Lens tip: a longer lens (around 85mm, not a phone's wide lens) makes the nose look smaller and the face flatter, so features stay in proportion. Pair it with a simple background so the face remains the subject.
