A design-forward framing technique that reserves clean, uncluttered negative space on one side of the frame for text overlays and brand assets.
This framing technique intentionally leaves a large portion of the frame clean and uncluttered, typically using a soft-focus background or a minimalist wall. It is the gold standard for commercial web banners, book covers, and advertisements where text must be layered over the image. To achieve the best effect, use a shallow depth of field (f/2.8 or lower) to melt the background details into a smooth gradient of color and light. Avoid placing high-contrast objects or busy patterns in the designated negative area, as they will compete with the text overlay.
