Choker framing

Why it works: Choker framing eliminates every distraction — shoulders, clothing, background — so the viewer has nowhere to look but the eyes. It's pure emotional voltage. But if the gaze is blank, the image falls flat; always direct your subject to project a clear, focused emotion.

• Pitfall: cropping exactly at the chin can look like a mistake. Cut slightly lower (mid-neck) or higher (jawline) for a deliberate, editorial feel.
• Pair it with: a wide aperture (low f‑stop) to blur the background into a smooth wash — this pushes the face even more into the foreground.
