Extreme long shot is a framing where the subject is very small, dwarfed by a vast setting, so the environment tells as much of the story as the subject.
Use it for scale or isolation. An extreme long shot dwarfs the subject, so the surroundings carry equal weight. It backfires when detail matters—small textures vanish.
Keep the subject visible. Place it on a strong focal point (intersection of thirds) and use contrast, or the negative space (empty area) swallows it. Not to be confused with a long shot, where the subject still reads as a clear figure.
