Visual anchor
Category
Subject
Visual anchor — a prominent element in a composition that the eye returns to, giving the image stability and a clear focal point.
Why it works: The single tree anchors the scene — without it, your eye drifts across the empty horizon and feels lost. A visual anchor gives the viewer something to hold onto, especially in vast open compositions.
Pitfall: If the anchor is too small or low-contrast, it gets swallowed. Make it occupy at least 1/10 of the frame or contrast against the background (silhouette, bright spot, sharp detail).
