Also known as watercolor wash, color bleed, wet paint watercolor, fluid watercolor illustration, soft pigment bloom, diffuse watercolor
A fluid painting medium where wet pigment is applied to wet paper, creating organic color bleeds, soft-edged blooms, and delicate pigment sedimentation.
Wet-on-wet (alla prima watercolor) is a highly unpredictable fluid medium. By applying wet paint to a wet paper surface, pigments run, diffuse, and pool in organic paths. The resulting visual signature consists of soft, bleeding edges, delicate concentric pigment rings (blooms), and natural granulating textures as heavier pigments settle into the paper’s valleys. It conveys transparency, light, and ephemeral motion.
Where to apply: Superb for soft fashion editorials, atmospheric landscapes, delicate floral designs, conceptual character portraits, and dreamlike abstract backdrops.
wet-on-wet watercolor illustration of an elegant high-fashion evening gown. Soft bleeding edges of amber and deep indigo pigments diffusing organically into damp cold-press cotton paper. Delicate water-bloom textures and pigment sedimentation at the borders. Soft, natural daylight casting a gentle glow. --ar 4:5
