Fauvist palette

Go pure and flat. The Fauvist palette lives on straight-from-the-tube saturation—no mixing or blending. Use pure red, yellow, blue, and green in blocks, and let contrast, not shading, define form. Add dark outlines. Thick black (or deep blue) contours around each shape keep the colors from fighting and make the image read clearly. Skip the shadow. Realism kills the effect—avoid any gray, brown, or muted tone, and never use black for shadow (it's a color itself).
