Guache is an opaque watercolor paint that dries to a flat, matte finish, so colors sit solid and chalky instead of glowing transparent like a dye.
Paint dark to light, not light to dark. Its opacity (how solidly it covers what is underneath) lets pale paint sit over dark lines, so you can correct and layer instead of saving paper white — a beginner's biggest shift from transparent watercolor.
Expect a matte shift. Colors dry lighter and chalkier than they look wet; test a scrap before committing a large flat area. Pair it with rough paper to show the texture.
