Extreme close-up — a framing so tight the subject fills the whole frame, showing just a fragment like a single eye or a petal's edge with texture and detail.
Reach for it when texture is the story. An extreme close-up (a frame filled by one small part of a subject) turns surface — pores, fibers, grit — into the subject itself. It backfires when the crop hides what the object is: if a viewer can't name the thing within a second, pull back one step.
Not to be confused with a close-up. A close-up still frames a whole face or whole object; extreme close-up crops into a part of it, so the edge of the frame cuts the subject on every side.
