expired film

Lean into the imperfection. Expired film works best when you let the grain and color casts dominate — sharpness and neutrality are the enemy. Use it to instantly age a scene and add a dusty, analog warmth, but skip it for images that demand true-to-life color.

One trap to avoid: pairing it with modern, pristine lighting. Harsh sun or crisp studio strobes fight the decay; soft, diffused daylight or weak tungsten helps the faded look feel authentic. Use --no pure black, solid white to keep the shadows muddy and the highlights warm.
