A powerful backlighting technique that traces the outer silhouette of a subject with a brilliant, luminous line of light.
O luminous contours
Rim lighting involves placing the primary light source directly behind the subject, facing the camera. This creates a brilliant halo or outline that separates the subject from a dark background, emphasizing form, texture, and silhouette over front-facing detail.
Where to apply: Excellent for showcasing sleek product designs, automotive contours, athletic portraits, wildlife silhouettes, and transparent materials.
Full prompt
Rim lighting isolates a sleek, dark modernist armchair. A powerful hidden light source directly behind the chair wraps a thin, brilliant line of white light around its organic contours. The leather material catches a subtle specular kick. Rich charcoal backdrop with soft falloff. Minimalist composition. Shot on 100mm macro lens. --ar 4:3 --style raw
