Lotion swatch — a styled smear of skincare cream against a flat surface, showcasing the product's exact texture, thickness, and hydration level to viewers.
Carving out texture: A lotion swatch needs low-angle directional light to carve out its peaks and valleys. Soft, flat lighting completely kills the physical dimension of the cream, making it look like flat paint.
Background contrast: Pair a white, opaque formula with a tinted glass, acrylic, or slate surface. The sharp edge contrast makes the moisture level, richness, and viscosity read instantly to the camera.
