Filigree is an ornamental style of delicate, lace-like metalwork made of twisted wire scrolls, creating intricate open tracery full of airy, curving loops.
Think wire, not relief: Filigree excels when light can pass through it. Unlike embossing (raised solid metal) or engraving (carved grooves), true filigree relies on negative space (the empty gaps between curled wires).
- Specify the metal: Pair with gold, blackened iron, or tarnished silver to instantly anchor the reflective finish.
- Watch the scale: Keep the carrier simple; crowding the frame causes the engine to melt fine wire loops into noisy static.
